The Barriers to LOVE

Feeling loved and lovable is a wonderful experience.  Close your eyes; go within and ask yourself:

Do I feel loved right now?

Most of us don’t.  If you do you needn’t read on.   We feel love when we give love.  Here’s a test:  Think of someone you love. Put the image in your head and see that person, animal or object in your mind’s eye.  Look quietly for a few minutes.  What do you feel?  A smile, a sweetness, perhaps sadness if that person has departed this earth. Do tears come to your eyes, tears of gratitude and appreciation?  When we give love we have love.

You can give love to someone you’ve never met or someone on the street, in the store, someone you see or someone not in your sight.  I enjoy going to the store and seeing love in everyone, even the driver who cut me off or turned without signaling.

Love is in YOU.  It is always available; just change your mind from whatever it is thinking to love.  You can’t judge someone and love them at the same time.  You are not giving love so consequently you don’t feel it.

I’m trying to love a political figure I disagree with.  Anyone come to mind?  I find I can’t get to love if I look at the body.  Love in this instance has to come by looking beyond the personality or what they have done that is offensive to what is beyond the body.  Look for the Light in them.  Keep looking and ask your higher self aka Holy Spirit, “Help me see the light in this one.”  The body’s eyes judge but there is a way of seeing when we ask to look with spiritual vision.  Asking is important because when we “ask” we move from the ego way of seeing to another way.  We leave the ego.  The ego usually speaks first and you know that happens when you catch yourself immersed in judgmental thoughts.  There is another way of seeing but we need help.  The ego won’t help; it might try but its thoughts always have a hint of a “yes but….” to them.

Quiet your mind and ask for help.  It will come.  Maybe not in the next minute but sooner or later you will receive a thought that is not of the ego.  Trust and have faith that this will happen.  You are in charge of what you think.  No one is forcing thoughts on you….even if they try; there is a part of your mind that holds on to truth.

Yes, it is a challenge but you are worth it.  And every loving thought you have is saved for you!  The Course In Miracles says so:

³I have saved all your kindnesses and every loving thought you ever had. ⁴I have purified them of the errors that hid their light, and kept them for you in their own perfect radiance. ⁵They are beyond destruction and beyond guilt. ⁶They came from the Holy Spirit within you, and we know what God creates is eternal. (ACIM, T-5.IV.8:3-6)

The Course states in the Introduction that it does not “….aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught.   It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence which is your natural inheritance.”

So it is possible to give love and feel loved, and there are more.  Check out the Course or find a study group if you feel guided.  Know that you can do this on your own but call upon the higher self within, not the ego, and you will experience wonders that happen when you open to love’s presence that’s always there.

“Besides your recognizing that thoughts are never idle, salvation requires that you also recognize that every thought you have brings either peace or war; either love or fear.” ² (ACIM, W-16.3:1-2)
